Lets Get Nakd!

April 7, 2010

No, not literally! I’m talking about Nakd bars – have you tried them yet?

I tried this lovely Cocoa Loco bar this morning for my breakfast, i really had to have brekkie on the run as it was Day 2 of exams (it was first aid today and all exams were passed again – yay!) This bar was GOOD i love the fact all the ingredients are raw and natural. Let me give you some info on this bar in particular;

  • Nothing Artificial (no added sugar, syrups, wheat , dairy or GMO)
  • Each bar is cold pressed and never baked
  • 90% fat free
  • 2 of your 5 a day (naturally vegan)

Now if that is not BRILLIANT enough, check out the ingredients list;

  • Raw dates (37%)
  • oats (24%)
  • Raw Raisins (12%)
  • Raw Peanuts (9%)
  • Apple Juice (9%)
  • Cocoa (5%)
  • Raw Almonds (2%)
  • Raw Walnuts (2%)
  • a hint of natural flavour

Nakd Bars I LOVE YOU!

The bar itself tasted almost bitter and as a very dark chocolate lover this was well received. This was a fantastic natural breakfast which kept hunger at bay for many hours. I have already been to Julian Graves to stock up!

This is not the first Nakd bar that i have tried. I popped my Nakd cherry with this little bar a few weeks ago;

This bar was more sweeter than the cocoa loco bar and is a little smaller but is the perfect size to keep in my gym bag for when i want to refuel after a work out. Just check out the amazing little ingredients list for this baby;

  • Dates (52%)
  • Pecans (28%)
  • Almonds (20%)

The company that make Nakd Bars also make Trek bars (natural Protein) which i can not wait to try at the weekend. I’m going to pick some up tomorrow to fuel my long run on Sunday, if they compare to the Nakd bar i know they are going to be good. You can check out all these products on the Natural Balance Foods website here.

After my exams today i had time to hit the shops and pick up a few supplies, including;

  • 3 Frutina Bars (love them – just pureed fruit in a bar)
  • A nakd Cocoa Loco bar
  • half a cucumber
  • onions
  • garlic bulb
  • spinach (i am officially addicted to green monsters!) and…
  • Golden Linseed

No i may be a little dim but i did not know Linseed was Flaxseed!! Was i the only one in blog world who did not know this? I went into Julian Graves the other day to see if my little town shop had flax seed and could not see it anywhere, when i went back in today i saw this box of Golden Linseed and in brackets (Flaxseed). Not convinced that i was buying the right stuff i asked the girl behind the till and i am going to give this shop some credit now, not only did the girl know exactly what she was talking about but she went straight to the page in the Julian Graves file at the desk and informed me the benefits of flaxseed (how it contains omega 3, which is good for vegetarians and for skin etc). How refreshing to go into a shop and they actually know what they are talking about! It was also on special offer at £2.99 and is until 14th April so i may pick up another box before it goes back to full price.

Excited by my flaxseed find i dashed home to make a cherry bomb green monster! In the mix went;

  • A massive handful of spinach
  • 8 cherries
  • half a banana
  • 3 tablespoons flaxseed!
  • a cup of semi-skimmed milk

One Green Gorgeous Monster!

Talking of new things i REALLY wanted to try out my new Rachel Allen Mini Food Processor! So i chucked in it a few things out of the fridge; red pepper, cherry tomatoes, a whole garlic clove and some olive oil…

Whirled it all up to make this! Not sure what i made but it was garlicky! (sorry husband, i now stink!)

The taste reminded me of Brushcetta so that is exactly what i made. I toasted a mini baguette in a frying pan with a little olive oil and topped with the ‘stuff’ i made.

It doesn’t look much but all i can say is wow! I can not wait to make more ‘stuff’ in my food processor.

Other news, i am a little bit excited because both Joanne and blondeviki are trying my mushroom recipe tonight! I hope they like it!

    Oooh I haven’t seen those nakd bars before but they sound very tasty and perfect for a snack – where did you get them from?

    That magazine looks interesting too – is that something you subscribe to, or could I pick it up in WH Smiths?

    Also, yesterday you mentioned about your exams – what are you studying for?

    Look at me, full of questions! Sorry to be nosy 😉

    I love questions, so ask away!

    The nakd bars are appearing at more and more places, i have been buying mine from Julian Graves however i have seen them in Holland and Barratt too, they really are good!

    I pick Womens Running up from WH Smiths each month so ask your local branch as they should have it on the shelves – i find this magazine very informative and not as intimidating as Runners World. It is quite a new publication and has only been out a few months.

    My exams are something i have to do every year for my job. I am a cabin crew safety manager and still stay in check as crew so have to do the exams. I actually write most of the procedures so i really should have not excuse for getting things wrong!!! So i have been taking exams on aircrafts, first aid and safety equipment the past 2 days, i have one more day tomorrow and then i’m back in the office on Friday.

    I’m just popping over to your blog now to see how you got on with your mushrooms!

    I’m new to your blog so hi!

    I love nakd and trek bars too, I haven’t tried the pecan pie one yet but I have one in the cupboard to try out soon! I’m glad you’ve commented above about your womens running as I nearly picked it up the other day then changed my mind but if you find it good I might get a copy. I’m a very new runner so hope that it will help me out!

    Come and check my blog out if you fancy – http://www.keepingslimandgettingstylish.blogspot.com

      Well hello, sorry i have not replied to your comment sooner, for some reason WordPress put you into my SPAM folder! How rude! I really like the magazine and would recommend it…give it a try.

      I’m just popping over to your blog now for a nosy!

    Mmmmm i love Nakd bars! Did you know that you and Stella does healthy Eating have the same blog title today? Freaky! Thank you so much for the recipe, I did try it and i liked the stuffing but not the mushroom- it was squishy! Could you taste the flax in your smoothie?

    • April 8, 2010 6:03 am

      No way – i have never heard of ‘Stella Does Healthy Eating’ (maybe Stella copied me 😉 ) or just a spooky coincidence!

      Sorry you did not like the mushrooms, i think the texture puts a lot of people off rather than the taste but at least you tried.

      I could not really taste the flax, my green monster was a little more grainy, but it was still nice. I can’t wait to see how my skin looks trying the flax seeds.

    I had an Apple pie Nakd bar the other day which was really nice. That was from Morrisons but was the only flavour they had. I need to go to julian graves I think. I did try a Cocoa Brownie Trek bar the other day which i didn’t like! But everyone seems to love them!!
    Also is the food processor good? how big is it? I really need to get one and now this is half price I was considering getting one. I had seen that you got it last week and have been waiting for a little review of it!

    I think I need to get a mini chopper – sometimes its a pain in the ass to haul up my huge ass food processor!

    I’ve never heard of those bars before – love the stats though!
